1040-SR (Web-based) | Form 8879 (IRS Efile Signature Authorization PIN setup)

Form 8879 is the declaration document and signature authorization for an e-filed return filed by an ERO. Complete this form when:

1. The Practitioner PIN method is used.

2. The taxpayer authorizes you to enter or generate the taxpayer’s personal identification number (PIN) on their e-filed individual income tax return.

To assign the ERO's 5-digit PIN for a preparer, follow the steps below:

1. From the main screen, go to Configuration
   
   

   Open

   

2. Go to Preparer Setup

Open

3. Choose the preparer you want to set the PIN for, then enter the PIN under Default PIN Number
