1040-SR (Web-based) | Software Overview (Walkthrough)
In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about 1040-SL (Web-based version).

1. Main Menu
Message Center: a section that shows important updates and information. This section will show you updates related to acknowledgments, bank updates, state and IRS news, and other categories of messages you should pay attention to.
Rejected Clients: this section shows you the clients that got rejected. You’ll be able to see the reason behind the rejection from the client status section.
Start New Return: to start a new return.

Import App User: this is used to import the information of a taxpayer via the TaxesToGo mobile app. For more details on how to set up TaxesToGo and how it works. Read the following article:
Client Search: shows you the returns you worked on. You can filtrate your returns based on your preferred criteria, such as whether they’re e-Filed or not, their current status, and the date you worked on them. You’ll also be able to see all the returns you worked on at the bottom of the page.
Review Returns: this shows returns waiting to be reviewed.
Configuration: gives you access to the control panel, which you can use to configure everything in the software
Reports: This section gives you access to reports of all sorts. You can check federal, state, financial, and other types of reports through this section. This includes IRS acknowledgments, extension reports, non-transmitted returns, accepted and rejected returns as well as federal and state non-accepted returns.
Transmissions: This section is where you transmit tax returns.
Import Returns: If you have desktop tax returns, you can import them into the web-based software through this section by simply dragging and dropping the return file into this page, or browsing for the file:

2. Client Status
This section is used for checking the status of your tax returns. You can also find out why certain returns were rejected through this section.
You can also view/print returns, check the scanned documents archive for a specific return, email your client a copy of their return, and check the TaxesToGo chat history by clicking the corresponding blue buttons.
3. IRS Website:
This section directs you to the IRS.gov website. TaxSlayer recommends its user to frequently check the IRS website for important updates and to stay up-to-date

4. e-File Opt-out Form
This section takes you to Form 8948; which you have to fill for non-eFile returns, specifying why certain returns were not e-filed.
5. IRS Mailing Addresses
You’ll only need this section for non-eFile returns. This directs you to a page that has all the mailing addresses that non-eFile returns should be sent to.
6. IRS Publications, Instructions, and Fill-in Forms
This is basically a help section. It can also be described as a knowledgebase. It has publications, instructions, and details on what each form is used for.
7. Refund Calculator
This section is sort of a ‘What If’ mode. It calculates an estimated refund based on your entries to tell you how the software would calculate under certain circumstances and how much you should expect before you start filing the actual tax return.
