If you ever face an error trying to open a return and it shows that you need to provide a password as shown below:
Â
That means you either set a password for a certain return, or there’s a bug that needs to be fixed. To fix the issue, follow the steps below:
Â
Go to Tools > File Maintenance > Password Protect Files
2. If it’s bugged, the current password field will be greyed out (dimmed). so, you will have to enter 123456 (or any random password you remember) under New Password and confirm it. Then click Continue.
If it’s not greyed out, enter the password they set in the last box (confirm new password or leave blank to remove)
Â
Â
In case you entered a new password, repeat the same steps again, but now only enter the password you just set in the last box and click Continue.
3. Go back to the return and it will no longer ask for a password.
