To convert returns from one software to TaxSlayer Desktop version, the software you’re converting from has to be desktop as well. Returns prepared on a web-based software cannot be converted onto TaxSlayer.

...

  1. Log into TaxSlayer desktop with an admin or a superuser user account.

  2. From the Main Menu, go to Utilities

  3. Go to Run Conversion Program

  4. If you see this configuration screen below, wait for it to load

  5. The conversion tool will start as a separate program. If you don’t see it on the software, check the taskbar. This is how it’ll look like

  6. Click New Conversion

  7. Choose Desktop

  8. Choose the software you want to convert from, and from the Path to Program Data, choose where it’s installed on your computer, so TaxSlayer can read and convert returns.

  9. When done, you’ll see this screen. If you start a new tax return with a SSN that was converted, you’ll be asked whether you’d like to pull prior year information, choose YES.

 10. When done, returns will not show on TaxSlayer before you follow the steps below:

a. Go to the drive where the software is installed. Most of the time, it’ll be the C:/ drive
b. Go to a folder called TaxSlayer

...

(if it’s another tax year version, the folder will be titled with the tax year.)

...

e. Go back to the C:/ drive and then TaxProgram

...
